I-83 Exit 18 PennDOT Project

As the lead traffic operations engineer on the consultant team, TRG has been working on PennDOTís I-83 Project located in York County. The project involves the reconstruction of the Interstate highway along with reconfiguring the interchange ramps to increase the capacity of the roadways, improve flow of traffic throughout the community and enhance the safety of the roadway network. In order to meet State and Federal guidelines, TRG prepared a Point-of-Access Study, which has received approval from PennDOT and the FHWA. Preliminary engineering has resulted in the recommendation of a preferred alternative and the preliminary design of the approved alternative was recently completed. TRG is currently working on the final design of the project to include installation of an adaptive traffic signal control system along the corridor. Construction of the project is expected to commence in 2015, with the cost of the project estimated at $59.3 million dollars. More information can be found at the project web site located at

Waddle Road / I-99 Interchange Project

As part of the consultant design team, TRG has recently been selected as the Traffic Engineer for the Waddle Road / I-99 Interchange Project. Patton Township, in partnership with PennDOT, has initiated this project located in Centre County, State College, PA. The project consists of highway interchange improvements on the Waddle Road Corridor, which may include the replacement of the bridge carrying Waddle Road over I-99 along with ramp configuration improvements. Several interchange improvement types are being considered including Roundabouts, Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI), Conventional Diamond Interchange, Partial Cloverleaf Interchange and a Diverging Diamond Interchange. TRG recently completed a comprehensive evaluation of existing conditions within the area. Although the goal of the project is to identify long-term improvements which will be necessary to support existing and future land development needs, TRG is currently working with Township and PennDOT officials to identify Early Action projects. Projection of future year design volumes and traffic conditions, and preliminary traffic evaluation of the interchange alternatives are also currently underway.
