PennDOT ADA Requirements

The Americans with Disability Act, ADA, has been in existence since 1990 and recently the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, PennDOT, has established new standards related to accessibility at curb ramps. We have prepared a flier to provide some highlights of PennDOT’s new standards on curb ramp design. If you have further questions regarding the ADA requirements or any other transportation issues we would welcome the opportunity to discuss these issues with you in further detail.

TRG has been providing consulting engineering services for nearly twenty years. We pride ourselves in being experts in our field and hope you will continue to look to TRG for all your transportation engineering and planning needs. As traffic specialists we are able to stay up to date on the latest standards and technological advances in the industry and wanted to take this opportunity to share some recent changes to the ADA requirements as they relate to our field.

New Hires

Transportation Resource Group, Inc. (TRG) is proud to announce the recent hiring of Casey Markey as a Transportation Planner. Casey is a 2007 graduate of Bloomsburg University with a B.S. degree in Geography/Environmental Planning. After working several summers and interning with TRG, we look forward to having him on board full time.

Awards

TRG was part of the project team for the Two-Way Paxton Street Project, which was recently awarded the 2007 Project of the Year Award by the Central PA Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. This project, located on the former Amp/Tyco headquarters campus in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, was challenged by access issues which needed to capitalize on opportunities for redevelopment. The project re-established two-way traffic on Paxton Street (S.R.3010) and created new and improved access to the TecPort Business Center and the Harrisburg East Mall.

New Projects

TRG was recently awarded the Country Club Road / Rathton Road Corridor Study by the York County Planning Commission over eleven other firms which submitted formal proposals for the project. The project will investigate the two-mile segment of Country Club Road and Rathton Road to determine improvement projects for this congested segment of roadway. This corridor provides direct access for three significant institutional users: York College of Pennsylvania, York Hospital and Penn State York. With the combination of traffic accessing these institutions, and the many indirect users, along with the growth in commuter traffic, the corridor experiences significant capacity problems.

York Revolution Parking

The York Revolution recently unveiled their official plan for stadium and downtown parking options. TRG performed all of the traffic and parking studies as they related to the stadium parking and determined that there needed to be enough parking for 1,628 vehicles for the Revolution's home games. After unveiling the parking plan, TRG and the team identified more than 3,000 possible parking spots within an 8-minute walk of the stadium. "They are the experts as it relates to traffic patterns and formulating the best solutions," Opening Day Partners President, John Danos said of TRG. Fans of the York Revolution should find parking options to be easy and convenient.

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Thanks to the unselfish and patriotic duties of Master Gunnery Sergeant Steven D. Austin, TRG was honored to accept a flag of the United States of America which was flown in Iraq. MGySgt Austin normally works as a Senior Traffic Technician for TRG, but from February 2005 through February 2006, he served proudly for the United States Marine Corps at Camp Fallujah, Iraq. On the 4th day of July, 2005 a flag of the United States of America flew proudly in the Battle Square, Camp Fallujah, Iraq. These colors were flown for and presented to Transportation Resource Group, Inc. TRG proudly displays this flag and the accompanying certificate in our office. Thank you Steve Austin and all the men and women who proudly serve our country.
