DAUPHIN MEADOWS LANDFILL Washington and Upper Paxton Townships, Dauphin County, PA
Transportation Resource Group, Inc. (TRG) has been involved in the permitting process of numerous solid waste disposal facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Due to the sensitive nature of a landfill, the permitting process can be difficult. It is important to have team members who are familiar with the nuances of the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) guidelines and requirements for landfills.
TRG was contacted by Dauphin Meadows Landfill, Inc. (a subsidiary of Waste Management) to conduct a Traffic Impact Study (TIS) and "Form D" traffic report for the western expansion of the Dauphin Meadows Landfill. The landfill is located in northern Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The traffic report examined the entire 24-mile section of the haul route on S.R.0209.
Throughout the approval process, TRG conducted an extensive data collection effort and Community Involvement Program. TRG met with school officials from the districts along the haul route to listen to their concerns. Based on the traffic report, a specific plan to increase safety and reduce the possible conflict between landfill hauling vehicles and school buses was established. The same level of coordination with municipalities was also performed in order to present a Transportation Compliance Plan, which took into account safer hauling operations for the landfill. TRG also prepared and designed a Highway Occupancy Permit for the landfill's driveway, which included a right turn deceleration lane into the landfill.
