EXEL INTERSTATE 81, EXIT 44
South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, PA

Exel is one of the world's leaders in supplying logistic solutions for major good producers. Having researched the Mid-Atlantic Region, Exel determined that the Carlisle region, with its close proximity to I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, would be an ideal location to set up a new logistic center. Transportation Resource Group, Inc. (TRG) coordinated the transportation infrastructure improvements necessary for the 1 million plus S.F. facility which required the design and installation of four new traffic signals, including two at the Exit 44 ramps of I-81. The project also involved widening of the interchange and portions of U.S. 11. Extensive coordination was necessary with PennDOT District 8-0 on this project because of adjacent property owners who opposed the project. TRG was able to design a safe and efficient solution which received timely approvals from Carlisle Borough, South Middleton Township, and PennDOT. TRG provided extensive construction management and consultation services related to the traffic signal work. Additionally, the traffic signals on U.S. 11 required tie-in to Carlisle's existing closed loop traffic signal system.

The project was performed under an accelerated design schedule to ensure the logistic center was able to meet the needs of Exel's expanding client base.
