NEW SPRING GROVE HIGH SCHOOL
Jackson Township, York County, PA

Originally built in 1952, the Spring Grove Area School District High School has outgrown its existing facility located in the Borough of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. Requiring space for 1,800 students, the existing Middle, Intermediate and Elementary School Campus provided the area for the proposed 340,000 S.F. High School at a cost of $49.8 million dollars. The campus already accommodated more than 1,200 students and over 40 buses. This site had many issues and traffic was potentially a major stumbling point with the local Township. Most notable was a single, two-lane roadway providing access to the site through a congested, five-legged intersection slated for a roundabout by PennDOT. Transportation Resource Group's (TRG) responsibilities included preparation of a Traffic Impact Study (TIS), PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit Plans, and Signal Plan.

A critical point of the TIS was to account for the existing school traffic and roadways and to re-assign the traffic to the new location for the High School. TRG used its GIS mapping capabilities to accomplish this crucial task. All permits were obtained by TRG in order to promptly begin school construction for an August 2008 opening.
